Can I apply N400 and take test at my work State?

Hello, my N400 window time is Nov 2014. I am being offered at good job at my new company's branch in Houston for a year. My husband encourages me to take the offer, so I will go there by myself for that period. I am wondering if I can file marriage-based N400 in Houston, my permanent residence is in Los Angeles though. I still maintain my residence in LA, my husband will forward mails and everything to me. So if someone is experienced with the matter, could you please give me some insights about how I can proceed with the application? Will USCIS deny my N400 in fact we will not be living together by then? Thank you so much.

You need to be a resident in the state for the previous 3 months in order to apply. You will not be able to apply in California once you leave it and you'll need to wait 3 months from the moment you establish residence in Texas.

IMHO I would not try and get around that. There is no expectation that you should become a citizen and the USCIS is far stricter with the naturalization process.

I am packing now, and by my window time, I will be in Texas for more than 3 months. I understand I would need to get a Texas ID to prove my residence there. Please notice I am not going to go there to settle down there. Thank you so much.

I am interested in this concern too.

If you're just temporarily out of California then you should be ok. Just make sure you can explain that to the IO in a manner that you won't come through as trying to beat the system...
