Hi

My wife (permanent resident) and I would like to have her mother bring my wife's niece to visit us in the US from Costa Rica. So, it would be the 4-year-old girl's grandmother, who already has a B2 tourist visa and has visited US multiple times, bringing her grandaughter to the US for a long vacation. Grandmother already has a letter from CR goverment along with the girl's passport allowing her to travel with grandaughter.

The parents of the child do NOT have visas, nor will they be traveling with their daughter. Father has good job with government and stable income. My question, do the parent's need to attend the visa interview? From my research it looks like they do, or at least one of them along with a letter from the non-present parent stating they approve of the daughtr applying for the visa. I appreciate any advice or suggestions on this process. Thank you for reading. - Kelly

Wow, I just did this exact same thing. (our neice is 3)

We took both parents, but the majority of the questions were directed to the Mother.

The presumption (per the CO) is the child is going to stay in the US forever. So, you just need to prove strong family commitment from the parents.
