I received an RFE for my I-864 and i am a bit confused. They said my income requirement was not met and I needed to send additional information or get a joint sponsor.

My income is as follows. A monthly pension of $782. a month which adds up to $9394. annually.

I then have an additional $64,486. on hand in the bank in a regular savings account..

I believe that the 125% of poverty level is $19,662.

So, $19,662 minus yearly income of $9394. equals $10268. Five times of $10,268. is $51,340.

I believe I have meet this requirement.

Can someone tell me if I did something wrong?

Thanks.

Hi,

Just hitting the numbers is not enough to meet the I-864 requirements.

To meet the I-864 requirements, the sponsor needs to show financial support so the beneficiary is unlikely to be a public charge. The government looks at a totality of the circumstances.

With a low income, your savings will go quick. This may be the NVC's view.

Get a Joint Sponsor if you can.
