Question about joint sponsors

Hello! I'm new, but I've been browsing the site for months trying to get a handle on the exact process that my fiance and I are going take to get married.

We recently became engaged (February) while I was visiting him, and we were planning on going the route of a K-1 visa until over the last few days I discovered that his mother would not qualify to be his co sponsor because she doesn't make enough for her household size plus me. Which was pretty discouraging.. he's having trouble finding a job that would allow him to qualify on his own, and we didn't have anyone else to turn to as a co sponsor for the I-134.

Now I've been looking at a CR-1 visa, and I want to make sure that I'm absolutely correct before I get my hopes up. Am I right in thinking that with an I-864, that the combined income of two joint sponsors can be used to meet the 125% requirement? Because my fiance's mother and father file their income taxes together, and make well above the required amount with their combined income.

A joint sponsor can combine income with a household member to meet the threshold. In the case of your fiancé's parents, one parent would be a joint sponsor who would combine income with the other parent (the household member) in order to meet the threshold.
