My wife has a pending AOS application and we're thinking of moving. We've submitted all of the documents, and had her biometrics taken more than a month ago. Now we are just waiting for her EAD, permission to travel, and interview.

We would like to move, but have some flexibility in the matter. I know that changing our address with the USCIS is a simple process but is it advisable? Could this throw a wrench in our application or is it a pretty standard procedure? Looking for some subjective advice here.

Thanks everyone!

It is a standard precedure i'd say however I would follow it up with a phone call to USCIS just to be sure your new address is updated in their system! I had my green card mailed to my old address 5 months after moving houses and changing addreses online! great lesson learnt!

If possible be able to receive mail at the old address. The USCIS is a very large agency and they tend to not get some of the information passed along to the correct location. Most of the time the change of address works very well and others it causes real problems. Just remember that the USPS will not forward anything from the USCIS so if the change does not get done completely the items will be returned and you should get an e-mail telling you that it was returned--this assumes you sign up for electronic notification. It is not that it will throw a wrench in the application, but the delivery of the GC and/or EAD/AP depending on whether you receive those before moving. You can also tell the interviewer that you have moved and see if the address they have is the correct one at that time.

It is up to you. Just remember to complete the AR-11 and to complete the part about a pending application and also do not forget the I-865 for the USC sponsor(s) on the I-854 form.

Good luck,

Dave

i changed address while waiting for my interview to be scheduled and it was fine, each of you just has to file an AR-11 online and follow up with a call to the USCIS national customer service center. the sponsor's AR-11 will change the address on the i-130, the beneficiary's AR-11 will change the address on the i-485. USCIS will send you a letter acknowledging your change of address. also be sure to have the sponsor (presumably you?) file an i-865 which is the change of address form specific to the i-864.

at least in my case there were definitely no delays with my interview being scheduled due to the change in address, because i got my interview notice about 1 week after USCIS acknowledged my change in address. and we all know how big the backlogs are at the Los Angeles office ;)
