Hello Friends!

I apologize if this question is a re-post...i did browse through past topics but I didn't see it posted, so I am going to go ahead and ask!

Hubby and I are still patiently waiting for our NOA2... We filed at the end of January, so I am thinking it should be here within a couple of months :). Is there anything we could/should be doing now, while we are waiting, that would be beneficial for us later?
I know i need to get a copy of my long form birth certificate and a police check (can i get the police check ahead of time and it still be valid?), but any other advice would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

Yes.Here is your next step the NVC Process wiki. Read up on that. I would wait until you get NOA2 at least so its not too old (God forbid) but you sure can get all the other documents together.

The petitioner can make sure their last 3 yeas taxes are complete also.

Definitely on the BC and PCC - for Canada the police check is good for 1 year.

Things I did when I was waiting -

Made 2 binders (one for me and one for my husband)

Copies of everything sent in with I-130

Originals of documents that will be sent electronically for the NVC (his binder)

Copies to give to the consulate at the interview just in case they ask for it.(his binder)

Copies for myself of all of the NVC stuff

Continue collecting evidence of a bona-fide relationship - plane tickets/pictures so on

Get everything for NVC scanned so it is ready to be emailed when the time comes.

Make sure you have everything ready for the Affidavit of Support -

Know which I-864 form to fill out based on how you filed your taxes (1040 or 1040A)

Continue collecting paystubs so I have the most up to date for whenever it is needed

Get the records of immunization - make sure you have them all, if not get them done before the medical

Check out screen shots of the DS-260 that you will fill out online so you have all that information gathered

And for my situation - i had ALOT of time to get things prepared ;)

Research things about importing his car

Research about EI that he is eligible for

Alot of impatient waiting.... haha

Once the case was transferred to NVC I gave it a couple weeks then called every 3 or 4 days to see if I got a case #

Once you get a case # it still can take a couple of days to get into the system - that is why I didn't call every day.

Just make sure you check the guides so you have a good idea of the timeline once things start moving along

read saylin's wiki. she has tons of tips.

my noa1 date is just after yours.

the beneficary can get started on the AOS package and get tax transcripts, etc.

you can get started on the IV package which includes securing all original copies, etc. since your from canada most likely you will EP which means you will need to get everything scanned and put into pdf's. I'd get the police check once you have your NOA2 and I believe it is good for 6 months.

you can get all your cover letters ready.

you can check out screenshots for the ds 260 as that is a biggie, then begin collecting info for that...such as addresses, employment, etc.

you can investigate that your up to date with your vaccinations.

you can begin decluttering and reorganizing your house/possessions, if you have a house to sell (or you can come to my house and help me :) ).

that's about it!

but, if I've missed something....please let me know
