Hi all,

First of all I wanted to thank the contributors and people answering questions on this site as you are truly changing people's lives. Marrying a US citizen and trying to be together is one of the most difficult things I've ever done and I wouldn't have got this far if it wasn't for the information I've read on this site so sincerely thank you.

So I have just paid the Affidavit of Support fee and I'm in the process of preparing the AOS package to send. There were a number of points I wanted to clarify before sending.

  • My unemployed wife (petitioner) will be completing form I-864.
  • Her father will be the joint sponsor and so will also complete form I-864.
  • His tax returns are joint with his wife so she would complete I-864A
  • Do all the above statements sound correct?
  • There is a lot of mention of the 2D barcode at the bottom of the I-864. Is this barcode unique to me and my case? If so I obviously can't use the forms downloaded for the USCIS website
  • If that is the case how do I get two of these forms? will they be e-mailed to me so I can just print 2 copies or will I need to make physical copies of what is sent to me?
  • Can AOS package be filed by e-mail?

I also read a few pieces of information that I believe to be outdated but wanted to clarify that this is the case before I sending. Are the below statements true?

  • "Certified copy of completed most recent federal tax return with all supporting schedules" - The current instructions say nothing about the tax returns being certified. Is this still the case?
  • "Parts 2 and 5 (of I-864A) completed by the sponsor and notarized" - Again current instructions say nothing about notarizing the signatures. Is this still the case?

Again thank you in advanced for all your help. Looking forward to a day where there are no forms or visas standing in the way of us just getting on with our lives.

Barcode

As you fill in online, it generates the barcode containing your info. If you go back and change numbers, you change the barcode. If you start with a clean download/blank form for Dad, his info will be different, and so will the barcode.

Nothing needs notary or certification. Read the form instructions under tax returns and it explains it.

Tax evidence- pick a method

1) Photocopy of actual tax return (forms and schedules) requires a photocopy of the W2 or 1099 with it.

OR

2) Tax transcript retrieved online straight from the IRS needs nothing else with it
