I-129F Approved! When will NVC get my packet?

TSC finally approved I-129F (China fiancee) after 5.5 months.

FYI...I didn't receive any emails/text messages this time (unlike NOA1).

I found this out from the USCIS web site's case status page,

and supposedly they sent a hard copy in the mail...so I'm waiting.

Anxious to get to the next stop at NVC.

Do you know how long after TSC approves the I-129F,

that NVC receives the packet?

Also, how long does NVC take before they forward it to Shanghai embassy?

Congrats on your NOA2!! It takes about approximately 2-4 weeks for NVC to receive and/or process an approved I-129f files from USCIS. You can contact NVC in about 10 business days to check if they have received your case files and if they have already assigned a case number: http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/nvc/nvc-contact-information.html

Not sure how quick they send the files to US embassy in Shanghai though. Maybe somebody who went through the same embassy can chime in.

The US Consulate in Guangzhou is the primary US diplomatic post that does the K-1 visas for folks residing in the PRC. Believe me we wished it were different when we were doing the K-1 visa. My wife is from NE China, Liaoning province, it would have been much closer and easier for her to go to the US consulate in Shenyang (provincial capital), However, we had to make the trek to Guangzhou. You should become acquainted with the information about the Guangzhou consulate: http://www.visajourney.com/consulates/index.php?ctry=China&cty=Guangzhou.

BTW, there is only one US embassy in China, that is in Beijing. The other US diplomatic posts in China are consulates, Chengdu, Shenyang, Shanghai, Wuhan, and Guangzhou.

Yes, it can be inconvenient, to say the least. My wife and stepson had to do the ~1,900 km trip to Guangzhou for their K1/K2 interview. It was in the old consulate location. I don't know much about the new location. The information in the China embassy info is pretty good. Follow some of the threads from VJ veteran Darnell in the China Regional Form for what to do and when to do it. He helped us and many others on our visa chase in the PRC.

If I recall correctly, keep after the NVC to get your "GUZ" case file number. Like any bureaucracy, the Dept of State (DOS) doesn't deal with USCIS receipt numbers, but case file numbers. As soon as you get your case file number, it should help open the way to the consulate processing phase. The consulate phase has changed since we got our visas, hence my suggestion to review recent regional forum threads. The consulate's preferred method of communication is by email, you must use their form: http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/niv-inquiry-form.html

When your fiancee gets her "White Books", she should consider getting a couple extra copies. It is far easier to obtain them now, then trying to obtain later when in the US.

Without them, it could have costed us some headaches and delay later.

First I learned from you that Guangzhou is the K-1 processing center,

and second, my fiancee went to school in Moscow, Russia for 5 years

so it appears she will have to get some criminal background check done

over there as well. Not knowing this up front, this could have easily

set us back many weeks or months. But now, I can get started on this.

and we will visit Seattle in the future, so if possible, we could meet with

our Chinese wives. :-)
