hi vj members i have a question for my friend her fiancee doing his medical in 2 weeks and she's wondering what kind of blood work to they test for? thank you in advance

It's a bit vague but it seems they look for STDs and possibly some other contagious diseases. Some say they look for drugs there but that is questionable.

OP asked what they screen the blood for... They DO screen for HIV... at least I know they do in the Dominican Republic.

They are not supposed to test for HIV anymore.

Until January 4, 2010, HIV is listed as a communicable

disease of public health significance. Thus, until this time, HIV

testing will remain part of the medical exam for

immigrants and refugees until that time. On that date,

HIV testing will no longer be included in the medical

exam.

The new final rule means that a person’s HIV status

would not prevent them from entering the United

States. As a result:

• Testing for HIV is no longer required as part of the

U.S. immigration medical screening process, and

• People with HIV infection no longer require a

waiver for entry into the United States.

Does the person being examined have specific health concerns that might be detected in a medical exam? Perhaps if the OP told us that, our responses could be more precise.

That is an excellent idea. After that you can ask speific questions. I have never had a medical exam except for my own health, but my fiance justg had hers, and I read many reports to prepare her. So by all means ask questions, but read this cite first.

I get a feeling there is a specific health issue that you are worrked might cause trouble at the exam. Many people had the same concern only to find out that their specific issue is not one that immigration even worries about.

So read the cite and then ask your questions.

Yes, some people worry about what happens at the medical exam and what they are looking for. They worry if something from their medical will keep them from being approved. I think learning all about the exam is a great idea to know what to expect and to keep from worrying so much. The majority of people have no problems at or with the exam.
