W2's are these necessary with tax transcripts?

Some W2's are going to be hard to track down after all this time. Are they needed?

I've read that we need them for the past 3 years and then that we only need last year's. I only have 2005 and then will have 2006 so that is all I'm taking with me to the interview. I do however have my tax returns for the past 3 years.

Anyone out there who can better answer this question?

If the same rules apply as with the I-864 , if you're using tax transcripts and NOT photcopies of your tax returns , then w-2's and 1099's are not required.

Ahh great. For some reason the consulate in South Africa has made us use I-864 for the support forms. Is this common or could it just be a new thing for this particular consulate?

Cant speak for your particular embassy but on a personal note, I find the I-864 more clear cut and easier to understand as far as what is expected. The I-134 isn't even legally binding or a requirement, although still used by many consulates at their own discretion.

The IRS will also send you a copy of your W-2 if you request one. I was missing my W-2 for 2003 (I sent in the last 3 years returns...even though some have said only one year is necessary....but my lawyer felt sending in 3 years of returns was better).

But, anyways...the point is...........I called the IRS and asked them about my W-2 for 2003, and they sent me a copy for free....just like they do the tax transcripts when requested. So, if you can't find your old w-2's , just request them from the IRS.

My fiance is taking tax transcripts with w-2 copies attached for the previous 3 years. Although they are not required for the consulate we are going thru, I thought that it wouldn't hurt to include them. I would advise to ask VJ members who went thru your specific consulate just to be sure.

I've been wondering how common it is for consulates to require the I-864, too. Paris embassy says they require the I-864 in the checklist sent with packet 3... but they've been taking the I-134 at the interview instead.
