When to apply for DS 160

I know this has been asked multiple times but I couldn't find the previous post for it. When exactly can I apply for the DS 160? Do I wait until after I get the NOA2 in the mail or apply now since I already have the NOA1?

No you can't fill out until you have been approved USCIS. Sent to NVC for case# than off to your Embassy for processing. But you can prepare. And get ready and sure download the form and have it ready. Things you could gather now.

Agreed with dwheels. It can be done in a day and in one sitting too. So don't worry too much about it this soon. At least wait until you have confirmation of your embassy appointment date to do this. Best to do now is be ready with the information needed in that form.

In my case, I finished it in 30-40 mins, even without any guidance from anybody. I did mine when it was just starting to roll-out in Oct 2013. Good thing, I have all the crucial info needed about my application and my petitioner's details within grasp.

In our case, we waited for the US Embassy here in Manila to send me a letter giving me instructions to complete the DS-160, pay the fee, and book an appointment. Unfortunately, that letter took forever to arrive. So we went to the CEAC Visa Status Check Site and typed in our case number. We saw that my status was "Ready" meaning that the Embassy already has my packet and I just went ahead and completed the DS-160 and after paying a fee, I called in and booked my appointment.
