I have USAA car insurance with 300, 50, 25 coverage, premium is $1310 per year. This is for a 2006 Acura TL, less than 4K miles per year. One driver. They advise that by adding my wife, we discounted $42.00. Is that all?

The factors are: over 25 years driving experience, no tickets in over 8 years and no claims ever.

This seems very high to me, yet I have lived overseas for the last 8 years. Does anyone have any insight on the average rate that I should be paying?

Thanks.

Gupt,

The problem with comparitive quotes is that insurance companies do "hard credit pulls", which bang your credit score.....

Damn, living at home is getting really difficult!!! One wants to save money, yet, in the process, could cost money.

William,

Get comparative quotes, that's the only way to know for sure. There are too many actuarial variables involved for anyone to give you a 'ballpark' on VJ.

Thats great rate! I know someone paying 2100 on a '02 Altima, is middle aged drives 5kmi/yr with not tix.

William has not said where he resides and you have not said where your friend resides. That is a major variable in the actuarial process of determining premium amounts, without which the comparison becomes meaningless. There are other variables as well.

I am a GEICO customer. You can get a quote from their website. You can also get quotes from Allstate, Progressive, esurance, AIG and others.

That they do. But if you don't do the comparisons, how else will you know? Is there an insurance broker in your area whos opinion you trust?

Man is made by his belief. As he believes, so he is.

thats true, this friend lives in a rather tuff urban area, and lives/works from home... I actually told her that you'd be better off not having the car and hire your own personal taxi; cuz at 2100/yr insurance and car note since new and only logged 20k in 5 years don't add up.

AAA has decent rates, and if over 60 AARP has better rates for older drivers.

Gupt,

I agree. So, with that said, which companies typically offer better rates for good drivers?

Keep in mind, that I used Clements International, because in my overseas locations, USAA would not cover me.

Geico pissed me off 13 years ago, because they refused to underwrite my 1994 Ford Thunderbird Super Coupe.

In their mind, the car was too fast. Seems they did not give a sh!t about the driver, only the car.....short sighted, in my mind.

Gupt,

How about Missouri? Thoughts?

...which companies typically offer better rates for good drivers?

If you were in New Jersey, I'd recommend NJM. Ask around locally where you live, chances are there's a non-profit insurance group local to your part of the country that specializes in good drivers.

Gupt,

You know, the Kansas City Chiefs, AKA, chokers!!!

With that said, I guess rates vary. I always surmised that the midwest would have better rates. Not...............................

Missouri? What's that?

/kidding. I have no idea.

Holy cow! I'd shiit if I had to pay that much.

I've had StateFarm since high school and I'm in Michigan. We have no-fault here.

I only pay about $650-700 per year on a 2000 XTerra and it was actually a little less in 2000 when I had a brand new Durango.

I have my Home and another truck and my bike with them too so I do get their discount for multiple lines. Even still I think they have great rates and my Agent is a real nice guy to deal with. Check them out.

I had USAA when I was stationed in Hawaii in the Marines. They had good rates there but I couldn't say about the rest of the country.

Keep looking!

Gonna try again.

I get junk mail everyday from insurance companies claiming they can beat USAA. When it comes down to it they never do, also the service I get from USAA is always phenomenal, thats gotta be worth something...I also have my home insured with them, I'm certain I could obtain coverage slightly cheaper but doubtfully with the same coverage and i know it would not be with better service.

We had State Farm, then switched to USAA. Saved us a fair amount of $$$. When I checked around USAA was the cheapest. I know State farm was cheaper for House Insurance over USAA. We have heard nothig but good about USAA, but have heard mixed stuff on State FArm. Our aunt who had only one claim with State Farm was denied house coverage!! When it comes to insurance, cheaper isn't always better. I'm sure consumer reports must have a study on the better insurance agencies.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

All I can say is that I've been a happy USAA customer for years now. I really doubt you're going to find a lower rate. Not to mention, if anything ever did happen, USAA always has provided me with top notch customer service and quick payment.
