I am now just starting to get things ready. I have not sent in anything yet. I read the instructions and just want to make sure I got this right.

The first step is to send in an envelope with the following things:

i-130 form

both G-325A forms

G-1145 form

After that, I wait for NOA and THEN I send all of the stuff in the packet. Is this correct? Am I missing something?

Thank you!

Also, payment is not due until after NOA1, is this correct?

I - 130 sent 2014-04-18

Got NOA1 2014-04-22

I-130 approved 2014-05-14

NVC received 2014-05-23

DS-261/AOS bill 2014-07-01

Submit DS-261 2014-07-01

Paid AOS 2014-07-01

Sent AOS pack 2014-07-04

I believe payment MUST be sent with the initial package. Those are just the forms. You'll want EVERYTHING in the checklist that's found here.

Met in 2010 on a forum for a mutual interest. Became friends.
2011: Realized we needed to evaluate our status as friends when we realized we were talking about raising children together.

2011/2012: Decided we were a couple sometime in, but no possibility of being together due to being same sex couple.

June 26, 2013: DOMA overturned. American married couples ALL have the same federal rights at last! We can be a family!

June-September, 2013: Discussion about being together begins.

November 13, 2013: Meet in person to see if this could work. It's perfect. We plan to elope to Boston, MA.

March 13, 2014 Married!

May 9, 2014: Petition mailed to USCIS

May 12, 2014: NOA1.
October 27, 2014: NOA2. (5 months, 2 weeks, 1 day after NOA1)
October 31, 2014: USCIS ships file to NVC (five days after NOA2) Happy Halloween for us!

November 18, 2014: NVC receives our case (22 days after NOA2)

December 17, 2014: NVC generates case number (50 days after NOA2)

December 19, 2014: Receive AOS bill, DS-261. Submit DS-261 (52 days after NOA2)

December 20, 2014: Pay AOS Fee

January 7, 2015: Receive, pay IV Fee

January 10, 2015: Complete DS-260

January 11, 2015: Send AOS package and Civil Documents
March 23, 2015: Case Complete at NVC. (70 days from when they received docs to CC)

May 6, 2015: Interview at Montréal APPROVED!

May 11, 2015: Visa in hand! One year less one day from NOA1.

@Not a Tailor

Thank you for the very fast reply!

So, could you please confirm if the below contents would be an acceptable packet based on your experience and knowledge?

PACKET

  • Payment (I guess it has to be money order or check from US bank... will be hard to get quickly since I am in Japan and don't have my check book here for my US bank account.)
  • i-130 form
  • My G-325A form
  • Wife’s G-325A form
  • G-1145 form
  • Copies of every page of my passport
  • Translated marriage certificate
  • Copy of every page of wife’s passport
  • One passport-type photo of me. Write the full name on the back in pencil. Place in a plastic bag and label the bag "Photo of <name>". Attach the bag to a sheet of paper and place behind the corresponding G-325a.
  • One passport-type photo of the wife. Write the full name on the back in pencil. Place in a plastic bag and label the bag "Photo of <wife's name>". Attach the bag to a sheet of paper and place behind the corresponding G-325a.
  • Translated apartment lease (to show marriage)
  • Translated joint bank account information (to show marriage proof)
  • Several photos of wife and I together / wedding (to show marriage proof)
  • Affidavit? (to show marriage proof)

Also, one more thing. It suggests Affidavit to show marriage written by a 3rd party. Is this the Affidvait we submitted to the Embassy to get notarized when we got our marriage certificate papers done? Or is this some kind of separate thing that people write on our behalf for the purposes of this visa application (If so is there a special form or format?)? I also have a form I-864 that I filled out. Is this also included or is this for a later thing or…? Sorry for the confusion! Any help would be very, very appreciated.

Also, in the assembly instructions...

In note 3 it says provide “receipt notice number” and “A number” if possible. What is “receipt notice number”? Also, my wife has no A number since she has only visited the US on visa waver using ESTA. What should I do?

Where it asks for an "A number" write "none" as your wife doesnt have an Alien number.

For the receipt notice number I am drawing a blank. Which form askes for that?

Oh ok, so it just means in general on all forms. I get it.

For reciept number it talks about it here on the page for packet assembly instructions http://www.visajourney.com/content/assembly

Note number 3 states:

"Note 3: Provide both the receipt notice number and the A-Number as an identifier, if they are available."

Ok.. got it.. the receipt number is your the number you will be assigned by USCIS after they receive your I-130 packet. There is no need for it now as you don't have it yet.

Including your receipt number is more for if you receive a RFE (request for additional evidence) so that USCIS may know what file the additional paperwork is meant for.
