What if I get married in the Philippines?

I am a U.S. citizen, and my fiance said it will be quicker for her to come to the U.S. if we marry in the Philippines.

How would I get married there? Don't I need a marriage certificate in order to marry?

Would that really shorten the process of her being able to come here?

Any advice would help greatly, thank you :)

and I heard that can take long if not rejected all together

thanks for your reply

Wouldn't it be easier for you to go there and meet her? Plus don't you want to know who you are marrying?

by the way that guide is confusing to me

Wouldn't it be easier for you to go there and meet her? Plus don't you want to know who you are marrying?

you're right, it might be easier for me to go there,

so i am wondering, if i go there and marry her, what would that process be like?

also, once we are married, and i come back to the states, what do i need to do then?

thank you sir!

Its all a little confusing at first. You just need to read the forums here on VJ and have your Filipina fiancé do the same.

Heres another guide that is the official one http://www.immigrationdirect.com/visas/family/Fiancee-Visa-K1-Visa.jsp

Trust me you NEED to go there and meet her and her family members first for many reasons.

Someone else will post the official link to the US Gov site or you can search it yourself.

Btw what's the hurry to marry the Filipina you met online so fast?

Second that.

Meeting in person is very important. Not only to make sure you can stand each other in person, but there are those with less than honorable intentions.

The process to get married here is not too bad, but there is a 10 day waiting period between application and release of the marrage license. So plan at least two weeks if you wanna go that route.

K-1 might be faster to get her to the us at the moment, but if you figure in AOS then it will take longer if she has the desire to work or do anything besides sit around the house bored to death.

Ir-1/cr-1 results in a greencard on arrival, so that's something to take into consideration.

Side note, there are several reasons for her to want to get married here in the philis. One is her family would be able to attend. There are those that have the incorrect info that because you get married here and there is no divorce here, you can't leave her.

What's the hurry buddy? You shouldn't even be asking these questions or have found this site yet. Get on an airplane and go do some real face to face time. No that's not a new App ;). Im not saying this to be negative but you really need to make a REAL connection with the person you plan to marry and bring to the USA.

Would you be willing to meet a girl online that lives a few towns over from you and commit to marry her without even seeing her in person and spending the good times and bad with her and meeting her family first?

They have outlawed "Mail Order Brides" for a reason ya know? Its to protect both parties.

Go to the Philippines and meet the person you are chatting with and then do it again 6-months later and if all the same feelings are still there then continue with your quest.

if you cant afford make to multiple visits and spend extended time with her and her family I would suggest to look closer to home for a bride.

How would I get married there? Get a marriage license, have the wedding and file your marriage. Don't I need a marriage certificate in order to marry? You need a marriage license to marry.

Would that really shorten the process of her being able to come here? Short answer No.

The K-1 visa is quicker for your fiancee to get to the USA. No matter what you decide, meeting in person is a requirement. It is much easier if you fly to the Philippines than for your fiancee to get a tourist visa to come to the USA (the odds of her getting a tourist visa are between slim and none).

Once you two have met in person you will file a petition with USCIS to get approval for her to apply for a visa at the embassy in Manila. Once the petition is approved she can apply for a visa at USEM.

So fly to the Philippines, meet in person, then follow this guideline for the K-1 petition process.

http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1guide

Once that is approved you can move on to the rest.

K-1 is still much faster for getting to the USA, don't forget for the CR-1 you have to add in the time to get married in the Philippines, then the processing time for the marriage certificate to clear NSO... this is months. ;) After that you can start the petition process... CR-1 is much longer.
