Hello everyone!

I managed to lose my passport shortly after entering the US (somewhere between the border and my destination). I reported it lost etc., but now I have to apply for a new passport, and here is the problem: I can't seem to find a bank that will do a draft or money order in Canadian funds. Passport Canada will not accept any money order (postal or bank) or bank draft in US funds.

Has any Canadian in the US faced this issue? Can anyone advise where I can get a money order in Canadian funds?

Thanks in advance!

It's really hard, and sometimes long to get, and expensive to get a money order in foreign funds. You can pay with your credit card (American, Canadian, etc., as long as it is a real card and not a prepaid card bought in store), or with someone else's (with their permission). Call Passport Canada if you are unsure, they are helpful... 1-800-667-6868

Local consulate can help you locate a photographer who can take Canadian-size pictures too. Don't forget to send a Lost passport form... and if you can do it before March 31st, you will save some - http://www.passportcanada.gc.ca/articles/20140305.aspx?lang=eng

Believe it or not, I don't have a credit card. No TD banks in this area either. I called Passport Canada and they will only accept payment in CAD. My SO should be getting a credit card in the mail this week, so we'll be able to take care of the passport fees.

I've got the lost passport form filled out and ready to go as well, I hope the cc comes in this week to avoid having to pay an extra fee! I had a bit of a hard time finding a place where they would do Canadian passport photos, it took a lot of phone calls and running around, but a photographer in Cincinnati was able to do it for me at a very reasonable price.

Thanks to everyone for the help! I think in 10 years when it comes time to renew my passport I'll get my mom to send me a money order from Canada!
