Lý Lịch Tư Pháp số 2 = Police Record # 2.

New Journey AOS:

My fiancee came to US on the 8th of March, 2014 under K-1 visa at Newark, NJ Airport for POE.

Applied Social Security Number on the 10 of March, 2014.

Married on the 13th of March, 2014.

Sent I-485, I-765, and I-131 on the 15th of March, 2014.

Received EAD on June 7, 2014.

Received Notice of Potential Interview Waiver on July 1, 2014 date 6/27

Contacted Ombudsman on 01/12/2015.

Ombudsman contacted USCIS on 02/20/2015.

Ombudsman sent a follow up to USCIS on 03/18/2015.

I-485 approved on 03/31/2015 ( we ordered your card).

Welcome notice was mailed on 04/01/2015.

Received Welcome Notice on 04/08/2015.

Card was mailed to me/picked up by USPS on 04/08/2015.

Received GC on 4/10/2015.

You need to obtain the police record 2.

Police record 1 expires in 6 months.

Police record 2 expires in 12 months.

You need to obtain the police record 2.

NOT good for 1 year!! There is a lot of confusion about this. When my wife went to get her police report she specifically asked this exact question. They said NO it is NOT valid for 1 year. They said she could use it for 6 - 8 months. Even they could not give an exact time that the document is valid. My wife got hers in July and it expired February. Our interview was in March. We only realized at the time of the interview it was over 6 months old. We thought they would request a new one. Even though we passed the interview my wife went directly to make a new police report in case they realized it was expired and requested a new one before they issued the visa. Thank God they did not request a new one. So the US Consulate may accept a police report over 6 months it seems but they clearly tell you when you get the document that is is valid for 6 months. She went twice to get this report and both times was told 6 months.

So sounds like there is a discrepancy between the Vietnamese authority and the US consulate on the accepted validity Of expiration. I can see where the confusion is coming from then.

Wow. Well the consulate accepts 1 year now then that is better. That is a big change for them.

The consulate web site used to say 6 months for the police record but now it says they will except them 12 months from date of issue. I noticed the change as I had printed the document requirements out when I filed the I-130. It said 6 months on my print out but now it says 12 months on the site.

I still have the old instruction package ( November 2013 ) for K-1 that does say 12 months from the date of issue.

I found other old instruction package ( Jan. 2011) for K-1 that also says 12 months from the date of issue.

For K-1, it does say that for a long time not just recently. It might be different on CR1 visa.

It is how long the consulate accepts them for not the certificate itself.
