Do I need a police report from the US if I have lived there or just from my home country?

Hi,

I prior have lived in the US for 6 years (with a H1B work visa) but am now back in Germany, while waiting for the K1 visa. Will I need a police report for my time in the US (never been arrested or anything - just do they need that) or is only a German police report required?

Also, if anybody knows, will I have to have translations of birth certificates, police report etc for the Frankfurt embassy?

As for your second question, as long as the documents are in either German or English, you do not need translations for the Frankfurt consulate (see item 9 on the checklist). The only exception are prison and court records and entries in your police certificate, which have to be accompanied by a certified English translation. Bascially just read the checklist - it'll tell you exactly what you need to do.

There is no such thing as a police report in the US. The background checks that are conducted take care of any criminal history. We are a country where the citizens can freely travel about and move to live about and not have to register with the local police.
