The title says it.

I moved to US last year August. I'm planning to take the exam next week to join the US Navy. According to my recruiter, if I passed and if I'm already at the boot camp, I can instantly apply for citizenship. Thus, I can petition my boyfriend with a fiancee visa.

Has anyone of you done this?

Thanks in advance.

I don't have any experience, but was curious so I did a little googling.

I found this page on the USCIS site. It seems you can get citizenship when you complete bootcamp. There is also a provision to naturalize your spouse as well. This is something you might look into.

Seems like your recruiter is correct, but based on what friends have told me, don't trust the recruiter. Verify everything they say/promise.... :-)

After reading Ryan's link, I'm thinking it might be quicker for your fiancé to get naturalized if you get married before you join the service. You possibly could skip the fiancé visa process. I hope I'm reading between the lines correctly.

Thank you all for your responses. And RYAN E, thank you for the link.

So it means, before leaving the BOOT CAMP (completed training), it's possible that I could already be a citizen !!!

You're welcome. That's what the link seems to indicate. Make sure you file the paperwork as it isn't automatic.

Also, Tahoma read between the lines correctly. It seems like if you get married your spouse can naturalize with you.

Yeah, I saw that also. Shocks! I wish I have married him last month when I had a vacation there.

However, I think they will ask for so many documents also. Anyway, NATURALIZATION is really what we need.

Thank you guys for responding
