My fiance's passport expires November 2014. We are at the K-1 Visa stage and have received packet 3. She has appt to renew passport this month on 23. What happens if she gets interview prior to receiving new passport? We know it takes about 6 to 8 weeks to receive I believe. Any assistance in this matter will be greatly appreciated

Will she have to get the K-1 Visa in new passport? She is not coming to US until August because she is going to finish out her contract. At this point it won't be valid for the six months beyond expected travel date.

if you are worried that the new passport won't arrive in time for the interview, have her get the visa printed in the old passport. they will accept it as long as it has at least 6 months validity on it. have her bring her old passport (with the visa) and the new one to the US with her.

i had a similar question before my interview as well - here's the thread and the responses i got: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/470317-traveling-with-k1-visa-in-old-passport/

US Embassy Singapore won't print a visa in a passport with less than 6 months validity. So if her passport expires on 12 November 2014, then the visa can only be issued in the old passport before 12 May 2014.

If her passport will have less than 6 months validity before the interview date (e.g. interview on 14 May, then takes another week or two for the visa to get issued), then she should definitely plan on applying for the new passport now.

She is applying for the new one this month regardless. Just was wondering wat would happen if she didn't receive the new passport yet and her old one is not showing 6 mo validity at the time of her interview. Should we wait to send back packet 3 until we get new one or go ahead and get interview date and hope new one is received by the interview?

in that scenario, the embassy would still allow her to attend the interview, but they would wait to issue the visa until she has submitted the new passport.

it is really up to you whether you send in packet 3 now or later. personally i would wait so i could avoid the hassle of re-submitting my passport to the embassy later.

I would think she couldn't do her interview without her passport. I am not sure how quick the Philippines consulate in Singapore is, it took roughly 6 weeks for my wife to get her new passport through the consulate in LA. She will have to give the consulate her old passport.
