Ok this question may sound crazy but my finance (Dominican Republic) states that many people have told him that the embassy will ask him information about if he has a bank account and how much money he has in it. I told him I have not seen anything like that posted anywhere or in any instructions. I told him that he is confused and that they only care about my bank account for the affidavit of support because I will be the one providing for him until he can work. Has anyone heard of this before? Is it a valid interview question or do you think his friends are confused?

Thanks in advance.

Meanwhile - he is running around stressing trying to open a bank account when our visa interview is the 3rd of march.

I once went through a tourist visa process where it was talked about a lot and actually highly scrutinized in the interviews that i heard about others having. However, you are right on when you bring up the affidavit of support because that means just like you said, it will be your burden should he go loco and become a charge to government.

He has nothing to worry about. I have read lots of interview recollections and in particular those from the DR. I have not read ONE where the salary of the beneficiary was ever questioned. I guess that's the point, they are the beneficiary and we are the petitioner.

By the way, best of luck to you guys in your interview!

Thank you so much for your reply. It makes more sense to me that how much money he has saved would matter if he was coming on a tourist visa. Hopefully it wont hurt us.. if it was crucial I think someone would have posted a heads up about it by now... UGH.. my nerves are so bad now.. can't wait until he is here and I can breathe and sleep easy again.

He definitely doesn't need to be stressing about that! Our interview was in December and they didn't ask any questions about anything financial. I had the I-134 with me and they never even asked to see it. Our friends had an interview the same day and they didn't ask them any financial info or for the I-134 either and the petitioner in their situation is a student with only a part time job. They did ask us where we worked and what we did but that's it.

No, of course not. The K-1 visa benefitiary doesn't need anything related to finances.

Did he ask you to open him a bank account and to put some money into it?
