Event Description

Embassy Review : Our k1 appointment was at 6:45am on Monday 3/3/14. We stayed at Jardines del Teatro which is less than half a block away. I recommend this hotel btw. It was cheap, clean and had excellent internet. The owner was very sweet. I will advise that neither she nor staff speak much english so have your DR fiance book the room and communicate if you do not speak much spanish. They are remodeling a lot of their rooms and showed us and let me tell you they are grade A hilton quality!.. very modern and stylish. Now back to the interview...
We arrived at like 4:45am and were about 20 ppl ahead of us in line. When you go in they take your interview appointment letter and staple a number to it and give you the other half of the number. then they call the people with the earliest appointment time first. Because of this I saw no point in getting there so early!! I did this because I saw all of the people on here saying to get there in the line early. It really doesn't make a difference and I was told that and saw it. The line gets long but basically the whole line is in the building within 45minutes of starting to let people in and then everyone is just waiting.
We were first called to window 19 to give forms 156K etc. She told us to go to window 14 (cashier) and pay $80 and then return with receipt which we did then she told us to sit down. We saw green ticket (i was looking for it thanks to all of you posting about it)
We waiting and got called to another window for fingerprints. Then we were waiting for interview. Our number was called to 19 again and I was freaking because I knew that was not where they did interviews and wondering why we were going back to that window. I forgot to mention that the first time we were called to that window that lady was denying a womans visa. (wonderful way to start our day there, scared us to death). Turns out she just called us back there because she forgot to ask us for a passport photo. we sat back down and waited a LONG time for an interview. By the way the atmosphere here is very similar to the DMV experience here in the states.. the boards with the numbers, the tickets, the sitting down and getting called to different windows and the long wait!
Finally we got called to the window for the interview. When the man started asking me questions I didnt realize he was asking me the interview questions because he just jumped into them and I dont know.. i thought it was just to get started or something.. then he started to ask my fiance questions and I thought I was next but then he said congratulations - approved and I was in shock because while he was asking him questions, i was scared he was going to ask me more. While the first lady took the 156K, it was the one who interviewed us who asked us to sign it. I was very careful about this and had my fiance ask the first lady if he should sign it because I saw on here where ppl didnt get their visa issued because the consulate forgot to have them sign it. she said we had to wait and sign it during the interview.
Here are the questions we were asked.
Me: US petitioner female
-How many times have you met in the last year? - 4 and stated each and he asked to see my passport to verify
- How many times have you ever been to the DR and explain the purpose of each - this was 5 for me
-How did you meet? - He was a waiter at a resort I visited
- How many children do you have? I have 3
-How many diff fathers? - I had one before my first marriage and two during that marriage so 2 fathers.
- When did you divorce? - July 2013 (right before i filed the petitiion).. I added to this answer that this was because I was unable to locate my ex and serve him. I had to file for divorce my default. and that I hadnt even seen him in 2 years.

At this time he asked for our photos - I saw on here that they wanted to see photos of me with his family too so I made sure they were mixed in near the top of the stack. The man was sorting them by this. He was putting pics of me and his family to left and of me and him to right. He didnt ask anything about them.. but I did notice he did it.

Questions for my Dominican Fiance - Male
- Where did you meet when and how?
- How long have you been together? You are getting married so soon: I was worried about this because we met in Jan 2013 and I think thats the shortest relationship I have seen anyone on here have and get approved (always looking for it).. but he explained, said we have seen each other 4times, talk everyday and want to be together. The man just moved on.
- What is her phone number? He knows mine and said it but I was so terrified that he would ask me because even though I practiced it the night before I forgot it. I was still trying to remember this number when the man said approved 2 questions later. I mean cell phones save the number.. i just push a button.. not like i have to dial it all the time. I had phone records to daily
- How do you talk? - whats app, fb, skype, phone, vonage
- What is the name of her mother and father? He gave my mothers nickname, her name is Denise but she is called Dee by everyone. the interviewer paused and gave him a dirty look. I didn't intervene.
- Then he said congratulations and visa approved and we couldnt hold back the smiles.
We went to domex and told them that we wanted to pick up the visa rather than have it mailed. They still had us pay $11 which I dont think is right, its supposed to be less if you are picking it up but at this point I really didnt care about a few more dollars.. and we left. Now we are just waiting. At first I started to worry after the interview because I didn't think they took his passport.. but now neither of us can find it so I think they did take the passport and we just don't remember because so much was going on(lets hope its with the visa paperwork when they call). I had a huge binder full of stuff that they might ask for and they asked for nothing other than bare minimum forms, passport photo and pics.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
