Hello Everyone,

Its been a while that I havent posted here.

I have a question regarding the form 1099-R that my husband has now for his ITR. Last year(2005) he was collecting an amount of 15K plus from the IRA distribution which was inherited from his wife (deceased). My question is, Can he consider that amount as an income last year on his 2005 income tax return even its only an inheritance?

Thank you so much.....

Leah

Yes, that is considered income. If he made less than $50000 last year, check the irs website so you can use file your taxes for free via 3rd party companies (E.g. Turbotax, taxengine.com, etc.). All of those websites will ask you to fill out the 1099R section.

I would think a good rule of thumb is that if it's taxable, it's considered income!

My hubby got a couple of 1099-R's this year that were listed as income on his tax return, if that helps.
