I-864 question on gross adjusted income

Hi guys!

On form I-864, part 6, question 13.a.1, asks for the gross adjusted income for the most recent year.

Last year, I was working abroad and made around $18000. Even though I filed my US taxes, I got an exemption (by filing 2555-EZ Form-Foreign Earned Income Exclusion), so the gross adjusted income reported on my 1040 is $0.

What should I enter in Part 6, Question 13.A.1?

0?

18000?

02-12-2014 NOA for AOS, EAD and AP

02/23/2018 Lifting conditions approved. Card being ordered

Unless you filed a 1040EZ, then it is asking for your Total Income, line 22 of the 1040, and not your AGI. You put whatever is on line 22 of your 1040 for the last years.

It's an unfortunate reality that you cannot include foreign earned income on the I-864. So, if your total income was the foreign earned 18K, then your adjusted gross income is zero (0).
