Were you employed off campus? If so you are just going to have to come clean and I would recommend having an immigration attorney handle your AOS.

If it was on campus, 20 hrs/week is the max allowed

Yes, you might want to check with an attorney and recheck with a 2nd one to be sure.

I'm interested to know how the OP was able to work then as they had a SSN, which should have had conditions attached.

In regards to my expedite request, lets just say I had a lapse of intelligence and didn't actually hit the send button, which I didn't realize until yesterday. Many face palms have resulted.

Don't know if this was the case here, but there are cases when SSA personnel show up at campus in the INternational Student offices with applications for SSN, in some cases they are under the assumption (wrong one, but I know this first hand) that an international student asking for a SSN is because they would be working on campus, and thus, they do not write in the card "Not valid for work"; so it's up to the student to know that if working off campus, he/she needs to get an EAD.

Only if said student lands with an employer that does the I-9 he/she will find out he/she cannot work based on the SSN only. Smaller employers, specially hourly ones do not do the I-9 despite being required to do so, pay in cash, etc.

I now know why they didnot ask for more information except SSN. Yes, I worked for a small business and it paid me with checks, that why I had to file a tax in 2012. I assumed there are going to be more people like me in this case which do not know that SSN can only work on campus only.
