I usually post here when I do have health issues, because there's such a diverse group here I hope someone will have experienced the same (that sounded bad..you know what I mean!) and will have some advice, or at least calm me!

Anyway...I had a tooth pulled in the back bottom of my mouth quite a long time ago (2nd from back) and last couple of days I've thought it was infected (couldn't reach dentist at home or at work..on vacation until Tuesday..same with my Dr. but he's gone until Thursday...) so I got a local clinic that I used to go to to call in an antibiotic for me late this afternoon. We had a pretty good snowstorm here today, so I'll be picking it up tomorrow (or, later today now!) Anyway, what I'm experiencing is this:

the gums, or more specifically, the bone *under* the gum where I had that tooth extracted is really, really sore and aching. My left ear has been aching quite a lot as well, and the pain has moved up to right under my left eye now. It extends down from the eye socket, to the ear and down my jawline. What's really worrying me, though, is the entire left side of my face has been 1/2 numb and tingling for the past few hours. I have anxiety anyway, (although I haven't had a panic attack in a few months...WOOT! *fingers crossed!*) and so something like this kind of trips my triggers. It feels like I've just been to the dentist and the novocane is wearing off...weird feeling.

I debated posting this (dunno why!) a while ago, decided not to, but here I am anyway. Hoping someone will tell me "don't worry about it, I've had that, blah blah..." Any ideas anyone?? I just took a couple of Vidocin because it's hurting *that* much. (have them for back pain, but rarely have to take them anymore...maybe once every couple of weeks as opposed to every day previously)

I realize this is very, *very* rambling. I tend to talk like that in real life too...drives Craig nuts..wishes I would just get to the point sometimes!! Anyway...thoughts???

Thanks! M.

Dang...too late to edit. Going to town tomorrow... have to run a couple of errands and get prescription. I'm not one to run to the Doc for any little thing, but does anyone think I should go to the after hours clinic for this? As mentioned, I'm freakin just a bit about this... M.

I'll Google it, thanks. Will that cause facial tingling though?? That's what I'm most concerned about..have had ear infections before. As I say, will look it up though. Causing me so much anxiety I can't even begin to get tired...kind of got my sleep schedule turned around while I was studying for school! Thanks again...M.

Maybe the swelling from the infection is pressing on a nerve and this is causing the numbness and tingling. It's probably all related somehow to the infection and NOT anything serious. I'm not a doctor though (or dentist) or in the medical profession period, so my opinion is not worth that much. If it's really bothering you and causing anxiety, you should go to a clinic/emergency room and have it checked it out. It'd be worth it for the piece of mind.

Sounds like one of two things a) tooth abcess or B) sinus infection both of which would be helped by antibiotics and could give all the symptoms described (the one thing I have learnt is that tooth problems aren't always related to the obvious tooth) The 'joy' of th eface is that all the tubes and channels for want of a better description are so closely linked that a problem in one area usually if left untreated throws up symptoms in another ......... wishing you prompt relief I know its a pain in more ways than one

I would agree - sinus infection or abcess at the tooth site. Antibiotics required for both. The swelling in the jaw could press on a nerve and cause the tingly-numbness sensation. I don't mean to be an alarmist but if it is an abcess it can become serious so do get started on the antibiotic as soon as you can. Good luck for a quick recovery.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Thanks everyone. I'm going to pick up my prescription soon, so hopefully that will help then. I agree on the websites, Swirly...an "anxiety person" should *especialy* stay away from those!! At least the numbness/tingling isn't there right now,but it was all night. :( Just really, really sore now that the Vics wore off! Not going to take more though, will just get on the biotics and see how that goes... thanks again. M.
