Hi VJ'ers,

I am posting this in advance because I know it's going to be an issue for me as I do ANOTHER set of biometrics again for the ROC gc and would love to hear from anyone else who has had similar experiences.

I have very faint fingerprints, possibly due to my job (healthcare, lots of hand washing, etc), but not really sure. (The USCIS officers tend to blame my job). IN any case, for my AOS I "failed" my biometrics twice and had to go get a police check for all the places I'd lived in for the past 5 years. I also was at the info pass stations every few weeks to help "push" my application through, as once I "failed" my biometrics it went to a weird dead pile somewhere in VSC and my local USCIS office had to start moving things along for me. (They were quite helpful by the way). It all worked out but took multiple trips to the local office to get things sorted out and moved along, which was quite time-consuming and a tad stressful.

I also applied for Global Entry once I did get my GC and often have the same issues at the kiosks with my fingerprints not reading well. After speaking with multiple officers they have told me not to wash my hands before I use the kiosks, try and dampen them with water and keep them warm, but don't use greasy lotion, etc. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't.

Knowing that I will have to go through the same biometrics problems again for lifting conditions, and then it sounds like AGAIN to naturalize, I am feeling a little discouraged. Any advice/tips/experience anyone else has had would be much appreciated :)

2011 - 2013 - K-1, AOS, Lifting COnditions

2013 - 2014 - GC approved

2024 - Instead of renewing, why not go the full monty? (They actually made it really easy to do this)

Happened to me, they sent me a notice to go back and have them done again. Long drive here as well, and the second set seem to have been fine. If it hadn't been, I'd have had to give them a police clearance for the two places I have lived here in the USA.

There have been threads on here before about this, so you aren't the only one. I did try the corn huskers lotion, which I got at Walmart.

If you go up to the search box, on the top right side of this page, and type in fingerprint fail or similar, you will see it's happened to quite a lot of people. Pity they don't use ink prints, I never fail those:) Good luck!

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Technology is wonderful, except when it does not work. We had to make two trips to the biometrics place even thogh I think the person who took the first set of prints knew that they were not good. My wife said that they made three tries before the USCIS clerk just gave up and said those would have to do. What I am trying to figure out now is did the failed fingerprint cause a delay in the process. If so, how much. There is a number on this site where you can call the FBI and see if they did what they were supposed to do. When icalled they told me that they would not give out any information about it. Anyway, we are used to waiting. Maybe if you back far enough into the hisory of language you would be able to see that the word "waiting" and the word "government" have the same root.
