Does anyone know where in Southwestern Ontario I can get a birth certificate translated without having to send the document away? The document is in Dutch and is pretty worn...I am afraid it will be damaged if I send it anywhere.

I live between Windsor and London.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied,that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

the Dutch embassy is actually not very helpful unless you have an active application for services with them, but I will try. At least they always answer their emails within 48 hours...wouldn't it be nice if all embassy/consulates were like that?

I found a certified translator in the American translators Association (first paragraph click on "find a translator...")

I've found a canadian translator member of ATA in Toronto.

If you do not find a member of ATA close to you, please check the Canadian translator association ATIO.

I went to a public notary with my original birth certificate and obtained a notarized copy.

I gave the notarized copy to the translator.

The translator produced the translation page. She has attached a page of hers affidavit with her credentials to the birth cert. notarized copy and took to a second public notary guy who attached his page notarizing the translator affidavit and signature.

I end up with few pages attached and stamped. You MUST NOT separate the pages.

Being in Canada you may send your documents through electronic processing, this means that you will scan the translation pages without separating them.

In your interview day you bring the translation pages originally attached, AND bring the ORIGINAL birth certificate.

21 Apr 2014: EROLL Confirmation Received ?

14 May 2014 : Checklist emails received for all the IV and AOS documents (False Checklist?)

27 May 2014 : Received Checklist: asking 2013 Transcript (one checklist for each parent)

30 May 2014: Called NVC spoke with supervisor. The supervisor could not open the 2013 Transcripts we've sent in our AOS package on April21, because it was downloaded from IRS site. He said it was password protected.

We scanned the transcript and sent it to the supervisor at nvcinquiry@state.gov.

The supervisor was kind enough to wait on the phone and confirm that he has received our email with scanned transcripts attachments.

Supervisor asked another 3 weeks to review our cases.

01 Jun 2014: We sent 2 separate emails (one case # for each parent ) "Response to Checklist" to nvcelectronic@state.gov complete with all the attachments scanned into pdf.

04 Jun 2014 : Case Complete for both parents! ?

25 Jun 2014 : Medical done

22 Jul 2014 : Montreal interview. Approved! ?

09Sep2014 : Entry at Niagara-Buffalo Peace Bridge Officer also requested Green Card and SSN. We have received the Green Cards but we never received SIN. We requested the SIN cards again in November at Local Office and receiver the cards in one week.
