Hi,

I got a letter about my AOS interview yesterday and I am wondering if there is any system or pattern how the AOS works. I have noticed earlier that some cases got transfered to California and then got approved and now I have seen lots of people getting letters about the AOS interview.

Is there any reason why some people get approved without an interview and others have to go through the AOS interview?

I was also wondering how many people get approved after the AOS interview and how many of you have to wait for the FBI security checks?

We have already gone through security checks while waiting for our K-1 visa is there any chance we would have to go through them again?

I am not sure what determines if the case is transferred to CSC and approved without an interview. I have a similar timeline as you, and also got a letter yesterday about interview being setup.

Perhaps they want to have a chat with some people for whatever reason. I was hoping to get transferred and approved without an interview, but this is still pretty good. As far as FBI name check, I've read that it depends on how unique the name is. If the name is pretty common, it could take longer. Again, this is only what I read, and am not sure if it is true. Good luck on your interview.

This may help you with your first question:

http://www.visajourney.com/forums/index.ph...c=43885&hl=

Everyone has to go through the FBI checks, some are luckier and processed faster than others. If your name check clears before the interview, you typically get the card a few weeks after the interview.

My understanding is that the K-1 checks are different from the AOS checks. I believe rebeccajo has posted info about that. Using the advance search function, you should be able to find it.

Timeline for Naturalization:

Day 1: Application delivered to AZ

Timeline for Removing Conditions:

Green card received 117 days after application was delivered to USCIS

Timeline for AOS:

Green card received 120 days after application was delivered to USCIS

JanaStepho,

The NBC gives the I-485 application an initial review. If they believe that the case can be approved without interview they send it to the CSC for completion. If they believe that the case requires an interview they send it to the applicant's local District or Sub office for completion.

Many people used to have to wait anywhere from weeks to months to over a year for the FBI checks to clear after the interview. That no longer happens, the USCIS changed policy to wait for the FBI checks to complete before scheduling an interview.

There is a 100% chance of going through security checks again for adjustment of status - they are different checks than were done for the petition and for the visa.

there is no clear "criteria" on which AOS applications will be approved without interview but it looks like those who are in the CA local offices will have to go through interviews. our case was touched today...that could either mean they are going to send us an RFE or an interview date. :D

Fate is building a bridge of chance for the one you love...
