So, I have two weeks to settle everything before I move and I want to make sure that I have everything I need. I will only take 40 kg worth of stuff with me. Wish I can take all the ingredients for my favourite food from here but I guess that will not happen.

Anyone care to share what you take with you when you move? Any important documents?

Also, what should I do before I move. I know I will be meeting some friends and family, that's about it..

Hi,

Super important is to have the manila envelope that they give you when they send your passport back to you. Seeing as you are traveling from Malaysia you will need to have the manila packet with your carry on baggage as it has all of your documentation in it that the CBP needs upon arrival to the USA.

Focus on bringing favorite clothes, keepsakes, and things you can't get here. You will be able to buy yourself some new clothes once you're here. I wish I had brought more instant spice packets for rendang, soto, etc. You will be craving familiar food pretty often. Good luck! Selamat Datang ke Amerika. Haha. I hope that's right.

Yes! I am not planning to take too much clothing material with me. I only wish I can take lots and lots of food with me! I love the food here in Malaysia! So, when you moved, you took some instant spices? There's no rules on what I can and I can't take with me? Selamat Datang is correct. :) Terima kasih!

Yes. That envelope is in a safe place now. VERY IMPORTANT. I will have it in my carry on luggage. :) thanks

I'm the US citizen but my husband is from Indonesia. He got here in September. You can not bring fresh fruits or veggies and you can not bring any meats. You can bring instant spices, noodles, etc. Good luck with everything. Terimah Kasih Kembali! :). I wasn't sure if indo and Malaysia were exactly the same.

Not exactly the same. There are some distinct differences in the way of speaking and writing but usually understandable by both Malaysians and Indonesians. Both are an easy language to learn too..

Thank you for the tips! I think 20KG will be for clothing, keepsake and stuff and another 20KG will be for FOOD!!
