Hi everyone,

So amidst my being on cloud nine that my husband was approved at his visa interview yesterday and he's booked his flight to come to the states next Wednesday, he went to pick up his passport with the visa today at the DHL office and his gender is listed as F.

Has this ever happened to anyone? His inclination is to ignore it as he thinks that if he asks the Consulate they'll want him to mail it back to them to correct the error, and we don't know how quickly the turnaround will be. Plus he is clearly male - it's just the visa that is incorrect. He in theory should be receiving the green card here in the states in a couple weeks which is the permanent document and I do hope that one is correct...

However -- I don't want him to have an issue at POE and being that this is a Consular mistake I would hope that they could get something rushed to him to correct the error....

Advice??

Please contact the US Consulate to correct the mistake now.

Ignoring the gender mistake might cause you a huge headache later.

Errors on Printed Visas

It is your responsibility to check the information printed on the visa upon its receipt to ensure accuracy of the data. Biographic information on the visa should match the information found on the passport biographic page. Discrepancies on the visa must be corrected prior to use.

Error(s) on Visa Issuance

For errors such as the following:

  • Incorrect visa classification
  • Misspelled name(s)
  • Incorrect date of birth, gender or nationality

  • WHAT DO I DO IF MY VISA HAS AN ERROR OR INCORRECT INFORMATION WHEN I RECEIVE IT?
    • A visa that contains incorrect information is not valid. Please contact us immediately so the visa can be replaced. If you contact us within one year of the issuance of the visa, we may be able to correct the error at no additional charge. When you fill out the DS-160 visa application form, make sure to carefully proofread and verify that all information is correct (especially your name and date of birth). Errors on your DS-160 could result in the officer requiring you to return home to correct the DS-160 (significantly delaying visa issuance) or could result in errors in your visa.
