Mumbai does not allow petitioners in the Embassy but Delhi does, for Delhi visa interview, it will make a big difference for petitioner to attend the interview.

I went to Mumbai for my interview, all alone. My spouse didn't join me, and I had no issues at all there.

Does the spouse have to really attend Mumbai/Delhi ?

I'm IR1.

Any previous good/bad experiences with this approach ?

Oh you mean Petitioner. Not really but you can if you want to. Depends on the visa post i believe. Not every post allows petitioner to enter into the building but you could show them your US PP and make your way in.

Incorrect. Delhi allows petitioners in. It's Mumbai that does not allow the petitioner inside.

Plenty of couples on VJ who have interviewed through Delhi have their USC petitioner attend.

Interesting.. i was at the embassy in July and asked about this and that was the response I got. Maybe it depends who you ask

I need to plan on taking my spouse to interview after i fix the appoinment (Mumbai/delhi). But I m still waiting for NOA2.

Depending on your location, NVC will assign it to either of you and grant you an interview date - post NOA2.

Your interview will most likely be at BMB (Mumbai). We are from chennai too and wifey's interview is at Mumbai. Yet to receive the Interview letter. Chennai stopped doing the interview for immigrant visas i believe from April 2012. That is a bummer!

Guys,

Thanks for your answers.

Because my consulate is BMB, I guess the petitioner would not be allowed inside.

Based on some of the responses on here, do you think its wise to go in with her passport and let the consular officer know that she is waiting outside ? Like, at the outset - right at the beginning - let the consular officer know that she is outside

Maybe that sounds like a dumb move.

Or Maybe its brilliant.

Overkill ?

Any suggestions ?
