Hi everyone, I will be applying for a K1 visa soon and had questions about what happens after the wedding. My fiancee and I both have strict schedules and wanted to have a quick USA court wedding and a wedding in the Philippines soon after. The problem is getting back to the Philippines after the USA wedding. I understand we have to apply for the Green Card right after the wedding, and that she won't be able to travel while it is processing. I also know that in order to travel while the Green Card is processing, we need to apply for Advance Parole.

What confuses me is that I read that Advance Parole is only granted for work, school, humanitarian purposes, and emergencies. Is it true that we would be denied if the reason we provided was to have a formal wedding in the Philippines?

They say it's for those fairly serious sounding reasons, but they'll grant it if you apply for it with AOS with just the reasoning that you want to travel. It'll take about 3 months to get.

This guide covers that part, by the way: http://www.visajourney.com/content/k1k3aos

No reason is even needed. You are not required to provide an explanation of why you want/need AP when filing the I-131 with a pending I-485. AP is routinely approved for AOS applicants.

Sorry Lost At Sea but this is mis-informed. AP is a very routine part and parcel of the AOS package and once in hand you can use it whenever and for whatever purpose you like. You do not have to provide any reason for travel when applying.

I didn't say it HAD to have a reason. I assumed it might, but wouldn't need much of one. It's fine that it doesn't. I was agreeing - the OP can easily get AP.
