AOS - Too Long?

Hello everybody,

I filed to adjust my status (J-1 visa) early April (priority date - April 9th 2013). Everything was going smoothly, I went to do the biometrics two weeks later, had my EAD/AP mid-June and have been working since then. I haven't had any RFE.

Our interview was set up August 14th, 2013 but on that day we were told that our interview was unscheduled and we would receive a new appointment. It has been more than 3 months now and we haven't seen any update online, except our change of address on October 3th. I also traveled mid-October outside the country and didn't encounter any issue.

Although my file is still technically within the processing time frame, I called USCIS a few days ago to get more info. They sent a request to my local office (New York) to have them set up a new appointment.

I just wanted to share my experience with you and maybe get some feedback/advice. It's been 8 months now and I thought the AOS process was a bit shorter. Not getting a new appointment after 3 months sounds unusual to me.

Hello guys,

I received a letter from the local office today after placing an inquiry on my case last week. It is I guess a pretty standard letter saying that they "have reviewed the status of my case and found that it remains under active examination. This office office acknowledges the completion of your case as being outside normal processing times and realizes the inconvenience it may cause etc...USCIS will notify you as soon as possible if any further information is needed from you or when a decision has been made".

Has anybody ever seen this kind of response? Any advice?

I have an infopass next and I am planning to go, I will see if I can get more info (which I doubt).

Any advice or similar story to share? Would you recommend contacting the Congressman?
