does anyone know if non-US appliances (specifically, a macbook pro and a printer) could work with an adaptor without seriously damaging the appliances or shortening their life span?

for the laptop, i was thinking of getting a power cord from the US apple store - would that solve that problem?

the printer is a little trickier because i have no idea where i'd get a US equivalent power cord. should i bother with an adaptor or just leave it behind?

i do also have a piano that i plug in all the time here in singapore to keep out the humidity/moisture (i think there's a heat bar inside?). assuming someday i have the funds to bring it over, would i still need to hook it up in the US (assumably with an adaptor) or could it survive on its own outside of the tropics?

thanks in advance! :)

You won't need a new power cord for your computer, just an adapter plug. Maybe the same for the printer check the info plate on the printer where it say power input and if it is the same as the one on the back of the computer you will only need an adapter. Should say something like 110-220volts if it does only an adapter. I would think the same for the piano? Good luck.

Both will work in any country. Most likely they are multi-volt plugs that came with them, if there not just buy either a step-up or step-down voltage transformer. If they are us made, they are 110volt so you will need a step-down transformer for most all othher countries since there voltage is 220Volts. You can buy a little plug-in transformer here for about $10.00. But I imagine they are made to be used for other voltage already, sine almost all new ones are. Check the tag on the cords you have that came with them and see what voltage it says they will accommodate. If you cant figure it out, take the cords to someplace like Radio Shack, and they can tell you, plus if you should happen to need the transformer, they should have them for sale.

I got a couple of adapter-thingies to connect my Singapore 3-pin plugs to fit the 2pin plugs in the US.. IE they do not step up or step down the current/voltage, all they do is transfer the electricity to my appliance. Check your laptop label to see what voltages it can accept.. my laptop adaptor wrote that it is able to accept 100-240V, etc... Voltage from the US sockets is 110V.

With regard to your piano.. You might like to read its care instructions again (or look on its website for care instructions/etc). The humidity might or might not be too different from Singapore in Washington (I assume that is where you're moving), so look up climate/etc details for the place you will be moving to. (I had to keep humidity in mind as well because I was wondering if I needed to bring my camera's dry box over to CA. =) )
