Hello I have a friend who was issued a greencard in 2009 it expires in 2019 he wants to travel to Jamaica but is afraid that he won't be allowed to te-enter the country because he had a felony and a misdemeanor charge that he served time for 4 years ago. What can he do to assure his readmitance?

This question was posted on AVVO, and answered by several immigration attorneys.

The felony in question was a drug charge, but the same advise would apply to your friend regardless - Do not do anything without seeking competent legal advice.

Simple if he departs the USA upon re-entering he will trigger

an order to show cause, he will be either held in detention

maybe given a bond , maybe not and deported especially a

felony charge and a GC holder less than 7 years.he would

have to leave lots of money for attys and bond upon his return

once he sticks his finger in the machine its over...did 4 yrs nah

he needs to stay put...vacation in another state.
