13. Proof of Legal Name Change if either the US Citizen and/or foreign fiance(e) is using a name other than that shown on the relevant documents. You must give USCIS copies of the legal documents that made the change, such as a marriage certificate, adoption decree or court order.

I, the UK beneficiary changed my name legally by Deed poll when i was 18 just out of my own choice when my parents split up, not one of my ID's has my old name on it and hasnt done now for 6 years or so, im not too sure wether i need to send a copy of my deed as i will have to write my old name on the forms anyway so i cant avoid the question. the only reason i questioned it is because im thinking if i do send a copy of it, are they going to want an explanation of why i have changed it?

Not now, but you will need it later. I'd get the proof of name change ready for later.

My advice would be: send everything that can make it clear for USCIS agents. Do not do like me, that for rushing in sending the package as soon as possible, did not have the patience to wait till we have my now hubby divorce certificate. The RFE delayed the whole process like for one and half month. Try to make your file the more complete and accurate you can. This process is easy but tiresome and the agents do stop for silly things as errors in transcriptions of your info or confussion with names or even when they do not read the documents entirely (all of them have happenned to me: just to give you and idea: we got a RFE in the AOS process because the agent did not read completely my hubby job letter and thought he did not have the minimum annual income... two more months of delay!!) So, be proactive and include every piece of document that can make your situation clear. Good luck!!
