My fiancee is a Filipina living and working in Kuwait, which is where we met. I'm back home in America now, though.

We just got the NOA-2 and hopefully her interview will be scheduled promptly. My understanding is that her passport needs to be valid for at least 6 months from the date her visa is approved, correct? Her passport is set to expire May 22, 2014, and from what she was told she can only send it for renewal 90 days from then (February 2014) and it may take up to a month to process.

If her interview is scheduled while her passport is up for renewal, will they still accept it? Is there any form or receipt that shows it's being handled? Or have we hit a snag where she'll have to wait until after it's been renewed before going to interview?

Thanks for any advice.

I think she will need to wait for her passport before she go for the interview, how will the CO give you a visa stamped on your passport when you do not have a passport.

That's my fear, either she will have to get very lucky and have her interview next month, 6 months prior to her passport expiring, or she'll have to wait till March before she can even begin.

I'm taking her at her word that she has to wait within 90 days of the passport expiring before she can renew it. Does anyone know if there's a way for Filipinos to get their passports renewed early? Either officially or by going to the embassy and explaining her situation and hoping they let it slide?

Passport is only valid before 6 months of its actual expiration date. If your fiancee's passport will expire on May 2014. She won't be able to use it starting December 2013. Might as well start its renewal process soon if she doesn't plan to do any overseas travel this month.

As I know (and anybody please correct me if I'm wrong), you can renew your passport even as far as a year before its expiration date. Not sure how it works though for overseas workers in middle east. To be sure, ask your fiancee to verify with the Philippine embassy in Kuwait. Best to remind her not to listen to "rumors" about passport concerns.
