Bringing pet birds

Hi there...

Just wondering if anyone has bought pet birds? I am looking to bring my 2 birds from Australia.

I am unsure if they have to be quarantined for 30 days or not. I saw a page that said that commercial birds do (It seems pet birds might be excluded) but not sure.

Has anybody gone through this and know much about the requirements for 2 pet birds arriving in the USA?

Here is a problem for me:

• Port of Entry Arrival Directly to the Quarantine Port; that is no other stops in the U.S. permitted before the quarantine port

• I'm taking the birds to the east coast, but every plane stops over at LAX. According to the rule above, this can't happen. if I want them quarantined in Miami, it needs to be a direct flight from Australia to Miami (There are none of those).

  If the birds are quarantined at LAX... I'll have to fly back there from the east coast just to pick them up 30 days later.

I am not used to the logistics of shipping birds but could you possibly hire an agent to pick the birds up and ship them on to you ? I bet there are people that offer such services. or even a VJ friend that will help

Hi, thanks, yeah I contacted some pet transportation companies but they quoted me $3,500 for the 2 small birds from Australia to Florida. Seems how we already have costs including airfares, a wedding, visa fees, rent and a honeymoon to pay for, $3,500 is quote the burden to add on.

How much is it for you to get the birds to LA ?
