Hello,

My wife and I got married using a K1 Visa and are working on getting everything done for the AOS. When we got married my wife changed her name to my last name and we would like her green card to have her new name on it. Does anyone know what we need in order to do this?

We filled for her social security number on Monday and they accepted our marriage certificate as evidence for the name change, thus her social security card is being issued in her new name.

If anyone could help us out on this topic it would be great appreciated. Thank you in advance.

File your AOS forms using her married name if you want this to appear in her GC. There is an item in the forms for "other names used" where you can provide for her maiden name or other names she is referred to. Changing to married name is not an issue when filing AOS forms. It just depends on what you prefer to use. Some retain their maiden names after marriage and that is also acceptable.

Sein oder Nichtsein, das ist heir die Frage.

Just use her new married name on all the AOS forms. The copy of your certified marriage certificate will act as your legal name change document, just like it did for the SSN,
