So we went to the Social Security Office in our town yesterday to get my name changed from Young to Miller as we got married in September. I had all my documents with me to show him and everything was fine until the officer said he had to go check something with his supervisor. So he closed the window and went to go check something with her. He came back with a letter of refusal and his reason for not letting me change my name to Miller is because my name on my I-94 is Young....

What's going on? He told me to get my name changed on my I-94 but I haven't seen any instructions like that on this website, is it really necessary?? I was Joanne Young when I entered, and that form is meant to represent my state at entry, correct?

I should also add that my 90 days is already up, so right now I'm out-of-status- I'm filing my Aos papers tomorrow (the marriage certificates took 3 weeks! to get to us so that's why everything is a little late)- so could it be that he won't let me change my name because I am currently out of status?

When we applied for my SSN it was in my maiden name, we asked what we would need to change the name and they told us a marriage certificate wasn't enough and to come back with EAD in married name to have it changed. As my SSN is based on K1 it has to match that until I have EAD, that's what we were told.

Hey there! :)

When I first went to the SSA, I was told that if i want to change my name on the SSN, I should do it within the first 76 days. If not, to come back with the EAD or GC :)

Hope it helps :)

Aloha :D
