221g'd...

Easily the lowest point in my life right now. I thought I for sure was going to finally live with my wife. I'm feeling sick to my stomach

Visa refused. I got section 221g due to a DUI I had nearly 3 years ago.

CO told me I must talk to my panel physician first about this, obtain a letter from him and send it back to the CO office along with my passport.

I contacted my panel physician and I was informed that its a multi step process and that I must first go to my family doctor to do some pre screening for alcohol abuse. THEN obtain a notarized reference letter.

Well..

1. My family doctor passed away nearly a year ago. I use walk in clinics now.
I went to several walk in clinics. All of which refuse to do the pre screening but of course are willing to do a DRUG TEST (not alcohol, DRUG TEST). For a fee. LOL of course they want my money. I of course denied the drug test. What good is a drug test when they won't do the questionnaire?

2. I cannot find anybody to do this questionnaire for me, the panel physician wants $500 per hour to do any kind of consulting which is... Jeeze. Unaffordable right now?

I can't believe something so stupid.. A dumb mistake from the past is coming back to haunt me like this. As if court ordered counselling and jail time wasn't enough in the first place I have to do all this because they think I'm a raging alcoholic. I know it's not the interviewees fault. She was so nice and was following a guideline. It just quirks me that even though they had proof in their hands of my previous counselling it's not acceptable.

I can't even stand alcohol. I feel like a puppet.

Can I visit the US after a 221g? I'd like to visit my wife.

I don't know how much this will help, but my ex went to the Health Unit they have a drug and alcohol program and nurse it didn't cost him anything. Maybe you can call them and see if they can help.

I'm sorry about that, I know we had one member who had a very old dui and had a similar experience. He ended up jumping a lot of hoops before getting his visa. I will try to find his threads.

I am sorry - you sound crushed.

Any chance you can find a new famiy doctor, go to one your parents/siblings go to who might accept you as a patient easily, and go that route? The Health Unit sounds like a possibility. You mihgt also try a local AA chapter who might have resource suggestions or a subtance abuse centre of some kind. They offer many services for free.

Get on the phone and try and find a new dr, which I know is hard to do, but if you explain the situation, they may realize your not going to be a long term customer, so they may squeeze you in. the one guy I recall took well over a year to get it completed. Most of that time I think was it just sitting at the embassy!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Oh my. Reading these replies is stressing me out like crazy.

I have a feeling that the embassy is going to give me the run around even if I send everything in.

Does anyone know what kind of procedure they do? Blood/Urine test? Price?

I am currently contacting all friends and family for help.

including but not limited to driving while impaired? If yes, please detail in a narrative report when you
became aware and what if any history you obtained or findings discovered on physical examination or from
investigations including blood work. Did you come to the conclusion that your patient was suffering from

Yes I believe its just a questionnaire that u fill out--you can google it and you find many similar ones! As you should be aware by now--nothing happens fast at MTL, so one can probbaly expect the waiver process to go in a similar fashion. But maybe you will get lucky! of course it can't start until you hand them the paperwork.

Refer to #1

Very true.. I appreciate the replies and will keep everyone updated.

I have to fill out one part. A family doctor fills out one part. Then the panel physician fills out the last.

Currently hunting for a new family doctor.

Please, if anyone has and info share it with me. It will be extremely appreciated.

if you do a Search on VJ--such as DUI Canada(play with the wording, leave out canada, etc etc)--there are a few others in a similar situation. Could be worse, could have killed somebody and been in jail for the next few yrs. I couldn't find the guy that went through a similar situation, but that was a few yrs ago now, maybe 4 or so------ so it may not be relevant now anyways

Oh, an FYI. The DUI occurred in the US. Not Canada.

I know there's no excuse for a DUI. It's a shameful thing but I wish they'd look at the circumstances. It was in a parking lot and I wasn't even in my car when it happened.

Montreal is just going to go by the evidence on what they were provided. You plead guilty to the charge, so as you stated earlier, they go by the guidelines..............
