Hi,

I am a Canadian resident. I lived in the USA for work from 2008 up until Mach 2013 when I moved to Netherlands to be with my new husband, a US Army Staff Sergeant. We met in Nashville in June 2012, he got transferred in Dec . 2012 on a 3 year term to the Netherlands. We married via Proxy in Feb. 2013 and I moved to Europe to be with him in March 2013. I am officially sponsored by him through the Army, I am entered in the military system as his wife. I have personal bank accounts in the USA for when I used to live there independently and we also have joint bank accounts. I have also paid taxes in the US for my work. My passport has now been changed to my married name. I want to apply for my US residency here in Amsterdam. Is this a difficult process when one is married to a military?

Thanks.

Josee

If you are on official orders (you have to be listed on them too, not just your husband), had a green card before, this green card is still valid, since you are counted as beeing in the US through the military. I would clear this first. If you were in the US on a different visa type, you will have to follow the CR-1 visa process. You can find the guide how to do this here: http://www.visajourney.com/content/guides

No matter if you're Canadian, Indian, South African the process is the same for every nationality.

It's amazing how many questions can be resolved with a 2 minute Google search...
