In the Orange County Business Journal today there was an announcement that Tesco is going to open two stores within the next year in California, one in Laguna Hills and one in Fullerton with more stores to follow, planning to spend $490 million on US expansion. They are currently evaluation 300 sites on the West Coast and have already purchased a warehouse facility in Riverside County.

It's a supermarket.

I visited one that had a small clothing and houseware department, and a few electronics. The one I was in sort of reminded me of a mini WalMart. Very mini.

I read several months back that this was a possibility. Guess they've finally decided to make the leap.

I don't see them having mushy peas and HP Sauce on the shelves. It'll be fitted out to appeal to Americans.

Don't like Tesco's over here anyway, now if you had said Sainsbury's they are good

Sainsbury's gave it a try and sold out. Here on the east coast (US), there is a grocery chain called Shaw's. Sainsbury's bought it several years ago, then sold it off after about 5 years. It still is rather "British" in its design - wide aisles, shorter shelves... even the store sign itself still appears to vaguely resemble the Sainsbury's.....

You never know, after all it may not be a coincidence they're opening on in Orange County, there's a huge expat population there.

PS. My local supermarket has HP Sauce and Mushy peas on the shelf.

At least Tesco has food on the shelves in the UK! Everytime we go to Asda's, empty or half empty shelves all over the store.

I truly hope the US Tesco's stock UK food!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I like Tescos.

It would be awesome if they opened one near us especially if they carried a few items that Chris will miss while he is here!

Can't be as much as ordering it online though can it? Holy MOLY! :P M.

I found Lucozade(hope that is the correct spelling) in a supermarket here the other day.............picked it up for my man without hesitation......it was $3.75 for a small bottle!!!! Same thing with Heintz beans.......$2.50 for a can. Gav couldn't believe how expensive things are here in the shops and online-it is insane!
