Do they do background checks on the USC spouse of a N-400 applicant?

Of course, they have to prove that I'm a USC and confirm we're actually living, but do they dig any deeper when it comes to me--the spouse? Nothing really to find (boring life), but going over some paperwork that might need a background for something unrelated to my wife's N-400 got me to wondering if they go digging for dirt on a N-400 applicant's spouse, and if so what sort of dirt they look for.

I had not heard about this happening during this stage. However, immigration attorneys have said that USCs who file an after-visa complaint are investigated with an eye toward finding something to punish or prosecute them for.

No background checks on you at this stage (yes in previous stages). The most they might do is look into the bonafides of your marriage, but even that is unlikely past looking at any documents you give them. Do remember that they have a full file of all previous immigration docs, should that be relevant in your case.

Sort of what I figured. I'm not the one applying for naturalization, and I'm a USC--outside making sure it's a legit marriage, and I'm a legal USC--there wouldn't be a reason to look in on me. I figured things like in depth background checks, and the like get reserved for the applicant.

Was filling out a job application that had a big long spiel about all the all these background checks (they claim) they do, and I got to thinking about the USCIS.
