Hi am new to Forum and I am in Nigeria . I intend going for a three days Conference on World Liquified Natural Gas on January 23 2014 ,Please what type of Visa do I apply for and what time is best I apply so it won't be too late.

Hi, you need to apply for a b1b2 visa. Its a tourist / business visas. You should apply about 2-3 weeks before your intended date of travel.

I am on the same situation, applied for a B visa to attend a conference in las Vegas while my K1 is in process. I got the visa but ill be travelling next week.

Don't think it should be a problem if all your docs are legitimate.

Apply now, may well be a problem, OP is from Nigeria.
