It's been almost a year since I moved to a suburb just outside of Detroit to be with my husband. I still haven't made many friends here, and I'm finding it hard to meet people. I am a 30 year old woman without kids. Can anyone recommend any social groups? I looked on Meetups.com, but didn't see any that really struck me as something I would be interested in.

I just looked on meetup and the results were more dismal than I expected... sad.png In NY there are all sorts of ex-pat groups, and language groups that I didn't see there.

But this one did look funny, at least to me. I would totally go to this: The Detroit Drunken Historical Society.

There is also a group called toastmasters, which is aimed at improving public speaking and leadership skills.

What about volunteering at an animal shelter or something?

Edit: I thought you were this person, but now I see you are a different person. Anyway, here is a VJ member newish to Detroit also having trouble meeting people. Maybe you could go to that meetup together. http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/449839-is-it-time-to-go-home/
