Hi Everyone, I have searched the forums and haven't been able to find a thread similar to my question, so hopefully I just didn't miss it and I am putting up something that has already been answered.

My question is this....As of March this year my Greencard was approved and I have it in my procession along with my SS card and my new Texas Drivers License woohooo....very nerve wracking long months but finally all done. My Greencard and Driver's license are all in my new Married name. My question is, my Australian passport is in my previous married name. I am wanting to travel home next year and really need to know what I need to take with me to show why I have two different names on my passport and Greencard. I assume I would have to take my current marriage license and a copy of my previous divorce papers?

To be honest I am a nervous wreck about leaving the country and have been putting it off wacko.png

air ticket in passport name. that'll get you on the plane everywhere.

marriage certificate showing all names - that'll get you into the USA at the POE when the CBP goon checks yer greencard.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

You can get a new passport in your married name while in the US. I went through it myself. It doesn't take long. It's free if you do it within one year of marriage.

You Can????? I thought we couldn't change to our married names unless we were married in Australia...has that law changed now??

You have to go through your Australian state's Births Deaths and Marriages first, to your name change done through them. You can do this via mail, you don't have to be there. Then you use your name change certificate/new birth certificate that you got from BDM (depends on your state) to get your new passport through the Australian embassy in the US. I got it done last year, all from the US. It's a bit of paperwork but fast and painless, at least compared with the visa/greencard process.

I have been meaning to document the steps in the Aussie/NZ forum but have been slow. What state is your birth certificate from?

It's a Queensland Birth Certificate....I found a long detailed post about how it is all done in one of the forums. How do I get the form to change my name? Will they send it over from Australia to me or do I have to have it sent to a relative in Australia and them forward it to me?
