I got my us b1/b2 visa today. The issue date is 07 aug 2013, but the expiration date is 05 aug 2023.

Is this correct..since I guess the expiration date should be 06 aug 2023. Can you kindly advise on the expiration date calculation.

Also what does visa type R means on the stamped visa.

Pls help

The expiration date could be any date that the consular officer decided was appropriate. Even if the maximum is 10 years for your country, there is never a guarantee that you will get that maximum. But -- in your case, since it's so close to that maximum, my guess is that the visa was approved on the 6th (making 10 years the 5th) but not printed until the next day.

The R means it is a "regular" visa, not any kind of official kind of visa.

within 10 years, there are 2 leap years.

so, that's an extra day, twice.

hence the 2 days difference.

IMO.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

But that's true for any ten year visa (at least two leap years in a ten year span). Ten years is usually ten years minus the date of issuance, regardless (for example, issued on 18 Aug 2013 would be valid until 17 Aug 2023). I think that's why the person was originally asking (expecting to see the 6th instead of the 5th). But that one day, given a ten year visa is really meaningless --- enjoy the ten years!
