Hubby finally came home last night. We went thru MIA. When I made the reservation, I did a 3 hour layover, apparently that wasn't enough. We got to MIA, the immigration line was so long. It was the first time ever, I had seen it like that. We spent about an hour in line. When we got to the officer, they processed us and took us in the back to continue processing for my husband. We were in the waiting room for a while. When the officer took my husband's paperwork to process. He joked with another officer about my husband's name. Then he left. After a while another officer (different from the one who processed the paperwork) came into the room and I overheard him talking to yet another officer about them needing a signature or stamp for my husband's paperwork and that the supervisor wasn't around. After two hours, they took us to the back. The officer did the fingerprint, asked us for signatures. He was really nice. Then he explained about the conditional status and what we had to do. Then he sent us on our way to the front to another officer who did whatever he had to do. Then we were free to go but by that time we had missed our flight. Luckily, we got rebooked for the next flight. So yesterday was an extremely long day, but all worth it. Thanks again to everyone on VJ who has helped us thru the journey.

I have gone thru MIA many times and it had never been like that. It might have been the time of the day. MIA is usually pretty fast which is the reason I prefer it over FLL. I would say about 3 1/4 hours. I talked to an immigration officer. She said that people should allocate about two hours for immigration (when they take you to the office for processing). It also depends on what is involved in the case. A young lady was there for 4 hours and she had to leave her brother behind who would have been there for another 6 hours. If your case is straight forward. I would say 2 hours should be sufficient like the office said.

Thanks dwinge

Thanks so much for posting this! My fiance will enter via MIA (from Haiti) next week- and I booked a 6 hour layover, just in case. I won't be with him and I was concerned it might take longer than my typical 2 hour layover. Thanks also for the details of the process- I'll be sure to share with him. Thanks again- all the best!
