Hello, my boyfriend gave me his birth certificate, I have it here with me in Texas. However I realize all of his dominican documents must be translated into English. Is this something I am allowed to do in Texas, with a translator and notary or must his birth certificate be translated ONLY in the dominican.

Please help, we are just NOW starting to gather all evidence and material needed to apply for his K-1

Anyone can translate, just make sure you 'certify' the trnslation by stating that you (or whoever did) is fluent in both languages. There is an example here somewhere that I can't seem to find, i'm sure someone will post it

The foreign fiance(e)'s birth certificate is not required with the I-129F petition. The USC files the petition first, when that is approved, then foreign fiance(e) will be able to apply for a K-1 visa at the US embassy in their country. At that point, they will need their birth certificate and most will not need it translated if it is in English or the native language of the country they are applying in.

Oh, and for anything you do need translated now or in the future, this is the translation certification you need to put on any documents you translate > http://www.visajourney.com/content/translations
